NewcastleGateshead 2014 Dates for the Diary

Traverse 14 in NewcastleGateshead is quickly approaching. I know lots of you are enthused about visiting the area and have been asking for tips and recommendations of what to see and do. Resident NewcastleGateshead blogger and expert on Geordieland, Rachel Kershaw has shared her tips and major dates to put in your diary if your thinking of coming back later in the year.

Here are a few of the most interesting stand outs for me, what about you?

Below are NewcastleGateshead dates for the diary by Rachel Kershaw:

Newcastle Restaurant Week

27th January – 2nd February

Restaurant Week NewcastleGateshead

Many of us feel the pinch in January but Newcastle Restaurant Week is a great way to banish the blues and experience some of the city’s finest eateries without breaking the bank! In previous years I’ve sampled top notch food at Fat BuddhaBlackfriarsCafé 21 and As You Like It, all of which are taking part again this year, along with many more great restaurants offering two courses for just £10 or £15.

Gateshead International Jazz Festival

4th – 6th April
Inside the Sage Gateshead
The Sage Gateshead is one of Geordieland’s most iconic buildings and it will be hosting the 10th anniversary of the UK’s biggest jazz festival under one roof outside London in April. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not exactly a jazz aficionado but last year I booked to see Ruby Turner and The Brand New Heavies during the festival and it was probably my favourite gig of 2013!

– I love a bit of jazz and what better place to find some than in The Sage Gateshead, an beautifully iconic building (designed by Norman Foster) and conference venue for Traverse 14. – Paul

Bupa Great North Run

7th September

It’s known as the world’s greatest half marathon, maybe that’s because it takes place in one of the greatest places on the planet! There were over 122,000 people who applied to take part in 2013, will you be one of them this year?

– I completed the Great North Run many many years ago in my youth, would highly recommend attending and running for charity. There’s plenty of entertainment around the course with live bands playing and local cheering you on, the finish up a steep hill gives you a great view out over the ocean at South Shields. – Paul

The NewcastleGateshead Winter Festival

Throughout December

New Year's Eve Winter Carnival__

There’s nowhere I’d rather be in winter than NewcastleGateshead, as a season of special events make the whole place feel magical! From quirky Christmas markets to unique events like Enchanted Parks, it’s easy to feel in the festive spirit, as long as you wrap up warm! The highlight of the festival has to be the New Year’s Eve Winter Carnival, which I was lucky enough to be a part of in 2013. It was the perfect end to a wonderful year in my beloved Geordieland!

– I can imagine NewcastleGateshead being a very lively place around the Christmas period, they certainly know how to see in the new year in true party style. – Paul
